New Brunswick youth mental health program celebrates 25th anniversary

New Brunswick’s Link Program is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

The mental health resource aids youth in grade six through 12 and was developed in 1999 in Grand Falls, N.B., after three students took their own lives.

“The Link Program plays an important role in ensuring the safety and security of students,” said Education and Early Childhood Development Minister, Claire Johnson. “Life can be challenging, especially for youth who must face these challenges during a transitory and, at times, confusing part of their lives.”

The program offers support through a designated person, referred to as a link companion. These companions help young people who are facing significant challenges and looking to connect with a service provider in their region.

“It is important they have access to help when they need it most. We are grateful for the Link Program, which connects youth to relevant supports in their community,” Johnson said.
