SiRT investigates N.B. RCMP officer after ‘use of force’ during arrest

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a member of the RCMP’s actions while responding to a call in Carlingford, N.B., last month.

Members of the Perth-Andover RCMP responded to a disturbance at a residence the night of Oct. 3.

“While inside the residence a struggle ensued between one of the officers and an adult male. The officer deployed his conductive energy weapon (CEW/Taser) twice which struck the male,” a release from SiRT reads.

According to the release, the man did not sustain a serious injury. However, the RCMP received a public complaint and, upon review, the RCMP had concerns around the level of force the officer used.

SiRT received the referral on the matter from RCMP on Nov. 13 and assumed responsibility for the investigation.
