The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating an incident involving a woman reportedly suffering an injury to her face during an interaction with the Fredericton Police Force.
SiRT says officers responded to a called about an adult female considering self harm on the afternoon of April 4. They assessed she was a risk to herself and arrested her under the Mental Health Act.
The woman was brought to hospital and handcuffed. As police put her into a room, she went to the floor and reported she “sustained serious injuries to her face,” according to a SiRT news release.
SiRT investigates all matters involving serious injury, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and death that may have arisen from the actions of police officers in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
