Two youths are facing charges after police say they were found operating a stolen vehicle in Fredericton last week.

The Fredericton Police Force found the stolen vehicle while responding to a separate call for service on Brunswick Street around 10:05 p.m. on April 8.

Police say two youths who were unlawfully at large were inside the vehicle, as well as a 42-year-old man from Fredericton.

“When officers approached the vehicle to make an arrest, the driver attempted to flee by ramming three marked police vehicles, causing minor damage to all units,” reads a news release from the Fredericton Police Force.

The force arrested all three occupants and seized a loaded modified .22-calibre firearm from under the driver’s seat.

No one was injured during the incident.

The youth who police say was driving the vehicle has been charged with:

  • assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
  • possession of stolen property
  • flight from police
  • careless use of a firearm
  • unauthorized possession of firearm
  • possession of firearm knowing it’s unauthorized
  • unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm in a motor vehicle
  • possession of a loaded prohibited firearm
  • possession contrary to order
  • failure to comply with youth probation order

The second youth, who was the passenger, has been charged with breach of a release order.

Both youths remain in custody, while the man was released and is due in court at a later date to face drug charges.
