Vehicle crashes into wall of VIA station in Moncton

A sedan crashed into the Via station Moncton on Thursday morning.

Police in Moncton, N.B., are investigating after a vehicle crashed into the wall of the VIA train station early Thursday morning.

In an email to CTV News, VIA Rail confirmed the crash happened on the east side of the station located at 77 Canada St. just before 2:30 a.m.

Two employees were at the other side of the building at the time of the crash but were not injured.

Cpl. Corey Gallant of the Codiac Regional RCMP said a small sedan crashed into the brick wall of the station, but there were no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle.

“We did identify some suspects. We’ve talked to them at this point,” said Gallant. “We’re just trying to determine what happened.”

Gallant said the incident could be criminal, but it’s still early in the investigation.

“We’re not exactly sure what happened at this point,” said Gallant.

The men’s washroom is located on the other side of the wall where the crash occurred. The hole has been boarded up and the men’s washroom was out of service on Thursday.

The accessible and women’s washrooms remain open.

VIA said even though the exterior wall has been damaged, it has no impact on operations at the rail station and bus stop.

The investigation is ongoing.
