Youth arrested after allegedly making online threats toward Oromocto, N.B., school

New Brunswick RCMP arrested a youth for allegedly making threats that triggered a hold and secure at an Oromocto school last week.

Police say they received a report of a person making threats towards the school via social media around noon on Feb. 6, according to a news release. Officers arrested a youth at the scene.

Following an investigation, police believe the threats were unfounded. The youth, who cannot be named due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

“The RCMP takes threats to the safety of our communities very seriously,” said Sgt. Stéphane Esculier with the Oromocto RCMP in the release. “We will not tolerate violent threats or statements of any kind, and those who make them may face criminal charges involving significant sentences.”
