The Cape Breton Regional Police Service say one person is dead after responding to a complaint that shots were fired in the Shore Road area of Whitney Pier.
Police arrested three people as part of a homicide investigation after responding at a single-family residence on Shore Road, said a Saturday news release.
A man was reported running from the scene and a white truck was noticed leaving the area, said the release.
Police said a patrol supervisor attempted to stop the white truck on Cow Bay Road, where the occupants abandoned it and fled into the woods.
Police located and arrested three suspects in a nearby apartment complex with the help of the emergency response team, two K9 unit teams, a drone unit and additional patrol officers.
An emergency alert was underway for public safety during the event.
The major crime unit said the investigation is ongoing.
