Former executive director allegedly defrauded N.S. youth shelter of $200K: police

The former executive director of a Pictou County, N.S., youth shelter has been charged with fraud.

The former executive director of a Pictou County, N.S., youth shelter has been charged for allegedly defrauding the non-profit organization out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The New Glasgow Regional Police says it received information about the alleged fraud on Oct. 21, 2024.

They launched an investigation and learned a former employee allegedly falsified employment records and defrauded the shelter out of roughly $200,000.

Police arrested Tyler Allan Babineau, 33, on March 5. He was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 and one count of falsifying records.

He was later released on conditions.

Babineau is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Pictou on June 2.

The investigation is ongoing.
