The person pictured in the photo released by Halifax Regional Police has been identified and is no longer believed to be a suspect, according to a Thursday afternoon news release from the force. An image previously attached to this article has since been removed.
Halifax Regional Police are searching for a suspect they say is responsible for a hoax explosive device left near Halifax City Hall Wednesday morning.
Police responded to the report of a suspicious package in Grand Parade around 9:50 a.m.
Officer shut the surrounding area down to investigate, where police determined the package was a “hoax improvised explosive device” designed to come across as threatening, and there was no real threat to the public.
Police have since released a photo of a suspect, who they describe as a white man with a dark beard, wearing a large navy puffer coat with a fur hood, a navy hat, and navy pants.
