Man arrested after loaded handgun seized from Dartmouth home: N.S. RCMP

The RCMP in Nova Scotia has charged a man after a loaded handgun was seized from a home in Dartmouth.

Police searched a home on Garnett Street Wednesday afternoon, resulting in officers seizing the gun.

Officers also arrested 35-year-old Jarrem Gallant outside a business on Main Street, according to an RCMP news release.

Gallant, of Toronto and formerly of Dartmouth, has been charged with:

- careless use of a firearm

- contravention of storage regulations

- possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

- unauthorized possession of a firearm

- unauthorized possession of a prohibited device (over capacity magazine)

- possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized

- possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized (over capacity magazine)

- possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

- possession of a firearm obtained by the commission of an offence

- four counts of possession contrary to firearm prohibition order

Gallant was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court Thursday.
