A man has been charged after allegedly hunting at night in Cape Breton.
Police said officers were called for suspicious activity in Grand Narrows in the early morning hours of Feb. 27. A resident told police they saw someone with a flashlight and heard a gunshot.
Police said the resident was able to provide officers with a vehicle description. They then located the suspect vehicle on Grand Narrows Highway, where they stopped the driver and found a gun and deer inside the vehicle.
The driver was then arrested.
“Through further investigation in conjunction with Natural Resources Conservation Officer Service, officers seized additional firearms, ammunition and hunted animals from a residence,” read a news release Friday.
A 52-year-old man has been charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Careless Use of a Firearm
The Natural Resources Conservation Officer Service continues to investigate.
Police are asking the public to report any suspicious hunting activity or suspected wildlife violations by calling 1-800-565-2224.
