The government of Nova Scotia announced it will spend $3 million to develop a new community centre in Sambro, N.S., a community located in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
The centre is being developed by the Sambro Area Community Association (SACA). It will “provide an accessible space for sports, recreation, meetings and educational activities,” said a Wednesday news release.
Brendan Maguire, minister of Education and Early Childhood Development and MLA for Halifax Atlantic, said the centre will provide and accessible recreation space that can host sporting events, meetings and educational activities.
“Strong communities are built on shared spaces where people can come together,” said Maguire.
The building will host between 200 and 300 people for events and integrate green energy practices, said the release.
The president of SACA, Leslie Harnish, said the centre will be a “beacon of community spirit and collaboration.”
“We are immensely thankful for this opportunity to create a vibrant and sustainable future for everyone in our community,” said Harnish.
The province will transfer the crown land for the project to the community association for a small fee “provided that it is used for community purposes.”
