N.S. man arrested after allegedly fleeing police and flipping vehicle on Valentine’s Day

A 45-year-old man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly fled police and flipped his vehicle over in a yard in Amherst, N.S., on Valentine’s Day.

According to the Amherst Police Department, officers spotted a man who was on curfew due to previous charges in the Poplar Street area around 11:46 p.m. on Feb. 14. The man allegedly fled in his vehicle towards a six-way stop when police activated their emergency equipment.

Officers discontinued their pursuit, but soon found the vehicle on its roof in a yard on East Pleasant Street, near the six-way stop.

The suspect fled on foot, going over a fence and through backyards. A civilian tried to stop the man, but they were unsuccessful. Officers observed the man having an interaction with the driver of a white SUV before it sped off.

Police caught the man on Wellington Street and arrested him. They also found a firearm.

John Alan Warner, of Springhill, was charged with:

-uttering threats

-flight from police

-unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle

-resisting or obstructing a police officer

-damage to property

-unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon

-unauthorized possession of a firearm

-three counts of failure to comply with release order conditions

Police say officers previously arrested Warner and charged him with possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking on Jan. 25.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
