A Nova Scotia man who was previously charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Mill Village last month is now facing a second-degree murder charge after the victim died from his injuries.

Queens District RCMP and ambulance crews responded to a weapons call at a home on Highway 3 around 3:30 a.m. on March 28.

Officers found a man with life-threatening injuries at the scene.

The 84-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries “consistent with being stabbed.”

Police say a male suspect left the home in a vehicle.

Officers found the 60-year-old suspect at another home in Voggler’s Cove and arrested him around 7:45 a.m.

Derek Dominix of Mill Village was charged with attempt to commit murder and remanded into custody.

Police said at the time the men were known to each other and no one else was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The RCMP released an update Thursday saying the victim, who had been in hospital since the incident, died from his injuries on April 11. His name has not been released.

The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death a homicide, which police say was the result of intimate partner violence.

The Southwest Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit has now taken over the investigation.

Dominix’s previous attempt to commit murder charge was upgraded to second-degree murder on Tuesday.

He remains in custody and will appear in Bridgewater provincial court on May 15.
