Pedestrian, 77, injured after being struck by vehicle in marked crosswalk: Halifax police

An elderly woman went to hospital after a vehicle-collision in Halifax Thursday morning.

A woman is in hospital after police say she was struck by a vehicle in Bedford, N.S., Thursday morning.

Halifax Regional Police responded to the collision in the Larry Uteck Boulevard and Kearney Lake Road area around 8 a.m.

About an hour later, police said the northbound lane of Larry Uteck Boulevard, from Amesbury Gate to Kearney Lake Road, was closed and traffic would be diverted onto Amesbury Gate.

Police say a 77-year-old woman was crossing Larry Uteck Boulevard in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle.

The woman was taken to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries.

Police say the 52-year-old driver was issued a summary offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian while in a crosswalk. The ticket carries a fine of $697.50.
