RCMP in Halifax arrest three people for impaired driving within 24 hours

Three people in the Halifax Regional Municipality have been arrested for impaired driving within a 24-hour period.

The RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment says an officer observed a westbound Cadillac XT4 driving erratically on Highway 103 in Timberlea on Wednesday around 12:53 p.m.

Police initiated a traffic stop and the driver, a 39-year-old woman from the area, allegedly displayed signs of impairment. Police say she refused a roadside breath demand and was arrested for failure to comply with a demand.

The woman was released pending a Halifax provincial court appearance at a later date.

A 24-year-old man from Lower Sackville was arrested the same day after an RCMP officer spotted a Volkswagen Passat run a red light on Sackville Drive around 11:03 p.m.

“The officer activated their emergency equipment to initiate a traffic stop, but the Passat increased its speed,” a RCMP release reads.

Police say the driver eventually pulled into a parking lot in the 600 block of Sackville Drive, where he was arrested for flight from police. The officer then observed signs of impairment and demanded a roadside breath sample from the driver. He refused and is facing charges of failure to comply with a demand.

He was released and will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.

RCMP officers also responded to a report of an intoxicated person driving a Toyota Corolla in the 2100 block of Beaver Bank Road around 12:14 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers located the Toyota Corolla and pulled it over. Police say the driver showed signs of impairment and a roadside screening test was done. The driver, a 58-year-old man from Centre Rawdon, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

“He was transported to Lower Sackville RCMP Detachment where he provided two breath samples of 120% and 110 mg%,” the release says.

The man was released and will appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.
