Nova Scotia’s police watchdog is investigating a man’s arrest and injury in Halifax earlier this week.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) says Halifax Regional Police (HRP) responded to a call of an intoxicated man on a transit bus Monday night.
The man was allegedly being disruptive, damaging the bus and possibly had a knife.
Officers found the man on Scot Street and Joseph Howe Drive.
SiRT says the man was combative and resisted arrest, requiring multiple officers to control him.
One of the officers was bitten and required medical attention, according to a news release from SiRT.
The man was placed in custody and taken to HRP’s Prisoner Care Facility.
SiRT says he continued to resist officers and somehow became injured.
He was later taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken rib.
SiRT has since assumed responsibility for the investigation.
The team is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
