The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a man’s death after a Taser was deployed during an altercation with Halifax Regional Police.
On Saturday, HRP entered a residence in Fairview and used a taser during their response to a call involving a man who “appeared to be in distress,” said a SiRT spokesperson in a news release.

The man’s health deteriorated and first responders pronounced him dead at the scene, said the release.
SiRT has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
SiRT investigates all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick.
Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid after an investigation.
