Youth arrested with cocaine in vehicle after crash on N.S. highway: RCMP

A 17-year-old is facing several charges after police allegedly found cocaine and a knife in their vehicle following a crash into a concrete divider on Highway 101 near Windsor, N.S., Thursday morning.

Police responded to a report of a car driving erratically on the highway around 8 a.m. Officers found the vehicle twice, but it fled the scene both times, according to an RCMP news release.

The vehicle – a 2004 Honda Accord – tried to pass a marked RCMP vehicle around 9 a.m.

“The officer observed the car approaching, and activated emergency lights to signal for the vehicle to stop. Immediately after overtaking the police vehicle, the car hit the median concrete divider and the guard rail, then stopped after hitting the median a second time,” reads the release from the Nova Scotia RCMP.

The driver, a Dartmouth teen, was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment of their injuries sustained from the crash.

The RCMP says officers searched the vehicle and found a knife and a quantity of cocaine. The youth was charged with:

-dangerous operation of a conveyance

-operation while impaired by a drug

-possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

-possession for the purpose of trafficking (cocaine)

The youth was remanded into custody following their first court appearance on Friday.
