On his new album “Early 20s,” Maritime musician HARMZ is blending modern pop with retro influences to create what he calls a cinematic listening experience. “People will hear something different… something very, very experimental,” said HARMZ in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. Producer and longtime collaborator Alex LeBlanc helped shape the album’s sound. “I’m using a lot of analog synths and old-school references, but then mixed in with new-school drums and baselines,” said LeBlanc. Beyond the sound, the album focuses on navigating uncertainty after high school and trying to find direction. “I say it’s ‘our’ story because a lot of people can relate to this,” said HARMZ. The album also carries a hopeful message. “If you’re feeling down, if you’re feeling stuck, you just got to keep moving forward and everything will work out,” said HARMZ. After three years of work, HARMZ calls the album his most personal project yet, saying he hopes listeners connect with it. “Early 20s” drops Feb. 20, with the album release show set for Feb. 27 at the Auction House in Halifax.
