Rock Stars on Ice: Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko share preview of new tour

The Stars on Ice national tour is starting in the Maritimes.

Skating legends Kurt Browning and Elvis Stojko return to familiar ice this week as Stars on Ice launches its Canadian tour at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax.

“Best crowd is in Halifax,” said Browning in an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. “We always start off with a bang.”

“And this rink, I have great memories of my first Worlds here in Halifax. It’s amazing,” said Stojko.

This year’s production is themed Rock Stars on Ice. Browning, now retired from performing in the tour, returns as director and choreographer alongside his wife, co-choreographer Alissa Czisny.

“Back in 1991, skaters were stars,” said Browning. “Alissa said she wanted them to feel that way again.”

At the heart of the show is three-time world champion Elvis Stojko, who worked closely with the creative team to shape the show’s musical direction.

“This is my genre, and I love it,” said Stojko. “We wanted that seamless connection – something that keeps the energy high from start to finish.”

Other performers include Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, Keegan Messing, Madeline Schizas and more.

“I’m trying to build a show where these kids have the same kind of memories that we had,” said Browning. “Camaraderie, feeling special and sharing a love of skating.”

Stars on Ice kicks off its cross-country tour on Friday in Halifax.
