Canadian Pacific Kansas City train jumped tracks

Wheels on a CPKC train have jumped the tracks in Tottenham, Ont. Wed., March 19, 2025.

A Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) train slipped off the tracks in Tottenham Wednesday morning.

The Town of New Tecumseth has issued an alert indicating a train is “experiencing mechanical issues” in Tottenham at the 4 and 5 Line crossing.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has closed roads including 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Lines between Tottenham Road and Sideroad 10, said OPP Const. McKayla Cotey.

Terry Cunha, spokesperson with CPKC, said the incident occurred around 8 a.m.

“(It) involved two empty rail cars which remained upright,” Cunha said.

Crews re-railed the cars this morning, he said.

Cotey said the roads should be opened around 3 p.m.
