Two prestigious events call for two distinct awards.

Both the seventh annual Mayor’s Innovation Awards and the Barrie Arts Awards will be presented with a art form created by a local artist this year.

City of Barrie staff want local artists who specialize in digital art or sculpture to get creative and submit designs for the creation of the two awards.

Design for Mayor’s Innovation Awards trophy

Barrie staff is seeking proposals to design the trophy that is awarded at the Mayor’s Innovation Awards in November.

The winning design will be fabricated by the Georgian College Makerspace.

The rules state that the artwork can be created in any medium but if selected, it must be provided as a digital file suitable for large-format production (Adobe Illustrator or .stl file format).

The Innovation in Barrie trophy design should reflect the innovation theme, to align with the award categories.

Call to sculptors for Barrie Arts Awards statuettes

Local artists or even artist teams are asked to submit designs for the creation of the award statuettes for this year’s Barrie Arts Awards.

The Barrie Arts Awards gala is also hosted annually in November and it celebrates the achievements of artists, organizations, and art supporters in six categories.

Each year, a new sculptor is selected to create the award statuettes, which are unique works of art reflecting the importance of the contribution of artists and the arts in the community.

Barrie staff encourage applicants to submit designs that are celebratory and will instill a sense of pride in the award recipients.

Artwork must be family friendly and community minded.

Selected artists for both designs will receive a monetary award for their winning submission.

The deadline is 5 p.m. on May 12.
