Candle causes significant damage in Tottenham home

Officials say a lit candle sparked a damaging fire in a Tottenham home.

Fire crews were called to a home on Casserly Crescent just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters spent a little under an hour getting the fire, which was in the basement of a semi-detached home, under control.

Police say a candle ignited a drape covering a window in the basement.

Five people were in the home at the time. No injuries were reported.

Officials say the family will be staying with friends temporarily due to “severe smoke damage and flooding into the basement.”
