Provincial police say an officer stopped a vehicle speeding more than double the limit along Highway 400 south of Barrie Thursday with several passengers.

The Aurora OPP officer conducted a traffic stop in the southbound lanes near King Road in Vaughan after allegedly clocking the vehicle travelling 206 kilometres per hour.

The officer noted three passengers in the backseat were also ticketed for not wearing seatbelts. “Slow down and ensure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seatbelt,” OPP stated.

The offence landed the 25-year-old motorist from Brampton with a stunt driving charge, which carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused will also have to make a future court appearance to answer to the charge, and if convicted, would be hit with increased insurance rates and six demerit points. Additionally, a stunt driving charge remains on a driver’s record for several years.
