The busy Easter weekend of alleged stunt driving on local roads continued.

Police in Barrie reported that one of their traffic unit officers nabbed a driver for travelling at nearly double the speed limit at the southwest end of the city on Saturday.

Police say the patrolling officer clocked the male Alliston driver at 117 kilometres per hour while he was heading south on Essa Road south of Salem Road, a posted 60 kilometres per hour zone.

The driver faces stunt driving and speeding charges. His licence was suspended for 30 days and his car was impounded for 14 days.

Police are urging and reminding motorists to respect the speed limit.
