A Barrie man accused of being part of a local drug trafficking ring has had his charges withdrawn by the Crown.

His lawyer Alonzo Abbey confirmed to CTV News the charges against Reis were withdrawn after he entered into a peace bond earlier this month during preliminary hearing proceedings.

Police said at the time about $30,000 worth of illegal drugs, including fentanyl, crystal meth, oxy and cocaine was seized as part of the South Simcoe Police-led Project Chameleon investigation, alongside officers in Barrie and Newmarket.

Reis’ co-accused remain behind bars awaiting trial. The allegations against them have not been tested in court.
