More wintery weather appears to be on the way, as Barrie and many other areas across Simcoe Muskoka will be under extreme cold warnings and snow squall watches this week.
Environment Canada issued a multi-day snow squall watch for Barrie, Collingwood and Hillsdale, while Owen Sound, Blue Mountains and much of Grey County will be under a multi-day snow squall warning.
The national weather agency states that the Barrie area could see snow accumulations of 20 to 40 centimetres from Monday afternoon until Wednesday morning and that higher amounts are possible near Georgian Bay. Owen Sound, Blue Mountains and Grey County could get hit with 30 to 60 centimetres from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday morning according to the warning.
At the same time, Environment Canada issued extreme cold warnings for Orillia, Midland, Bracebridge, Parry Sound and many other areas across Muskoka.
The warnings state that wind chill values could reach temperatures as low as minus from 35 Sunday evening until Monday morning, and that extreme cold conditions could continue into Wednesday for some areas.
Those under snow squall watches and warnings are urged to be aware of reduced visibility and accumulating snow on roadways.
Those under extreme cold warnings are advised to wear extra layers that are wind-resistant, watch for cold-related symptoms, and to avoid keeping pets outside for prolonged periods of time.
