Gift card thief arrested from post-Christmas break-in: OPP

Police arrested one of the suspects allegedly involved in a break-and-enter and theft at a Victoria Harbour church over the holidays, where nearly $1,500 in grocery gift cards was stolen.

According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, officers received a report on December 30 about multiple suspects smashing a window at St Mary’s Catholic Church, stealing $30 and $60 Foodland and No Frills gift cards.

This week, police arrested a 39-year-old Tay Township man, charging him with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and fraud under $5,000.

He was released from custody and is scheduled for a future court date.

Police say a second suspect has been identified in the investigation and an update will be provided upon their arrest.
