Hillsdale man accused of child luring with notes at park seeks bail

An Ont. man accused of leaving notes at a park to lure children seeks to released from custody on bail.

A Hillsdale man accused of child luring for allegedly leaving several notes at a park containing links to an adult-only website is seeking bail.

Mitchell Koopmans, 34, was charged in late April after police say he was seen leaving several sticky notes behind in various locations at a park along Davenport Drive in Hillsdale in mid-April.

Koopmans has been behind for about three weeks after he was taken into custody charged with making sexually explicit material available to children, child luring through telecommunication and invitation to sexual touching along with unauthorized possession of a weapon.

Huronia West Ontario Provincial Police revealed its investigation was supported by the Child Sexual Exploitation Unit and Repeat Offender and Parole Enforcement Unit to identify the accused.

Koopmans, according to court records, was also accused of sexual assault and sexual interference between December 2023 and early 2024. Those charges are still before the courts. His defence lawyer appeared Monday afternoon in the Superior Court of Justice to address those charges.

Koopmans is scheduled to return to court for bail Tuesday in Barrie. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
