A Midland woman accused of being an accessory to attempted murder is back behind bars just weeks after being granted bail.

Georgia Quanbury is back in custody accused of stabbing a woman at a Midland, Ont. apartment complex less than a month after being granted bail on other serious charges.

Provincial police said the 26-year-old was arrested on Valentine’s Day and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and failing to comply with a release order.

As a result of the newest allegations, Quanbury will need a special bail hearing if she wants to get out of custody again.

Quanbury was released from jail in late January after spending five months behind bars accused of being an accessory to attempted murder in an alleged hit-and-run in Midland that sent Michelle Vainer to the hospital in serious condition. Vainer has since been released from the hospital.

Quanbury was granted bail on January 22 on a $2,000 pledge under strict conditions, including curfew. The Justice of the Peace said that as Quanbury is an Indigenous individual that was part of the reason for her release.

She was accused alongside her boyfriend, Patrick McGuire, of hitting Vainer with a car in the early morning hours of August 12 near Wellington and Robert streets. McGuire was released on bail in early January on a $5,000 surety pledge by a family member with strict conditions that included not communicating with Quanbury or the complainants in the case.

Her next virtual court appearance is scheduled for Friday. The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court.
