More than 2,500 Hydro One customers still without power

Nearly 100 per cent of Hydro One customers have their lights back on.

As of 7 a.m. Monday morning, Hydro One reported that crews had restored power to more than 99.6 per cent of customers since the March 31 ice storm.

In a statement released Monday morning, Hydro One while it continues to rebuild the electricity infrastructure, “All residential customers that crews can safely access are restored.”

However, that leaves more than 2,500 residences and businesses without power, two weeks after the storm decimated trees across central Ontario.

Work is continuing for the remaining resident customers and second homes, such as cottages and trailers, where access is difficult.

Hardest hit are areas where there are partially frozen lakes, especially in areas around Fenelon Falls, where it is not safe to land its helicopters are still without power.

Hydro One says customers with damage to their home’s electrical equipment such as a stack/pipe where the powerline from the road connects to their pipe, they would need to heed the electrical Safety Authority’s process for repairs

If your home has flooded and the water is reaching electrical outlets, baseboard heaters or your furnace, Hydro One asks residents to call 1-800-434-1235 to have power safely turned off. Hydro One says residents should not enter flooded areas, including the basement, until power is disconnected.
