In a few short weeks, Ontarians will take to the polls to cast their vote for mayor, city councillors and other localized positions. In the meantime, those hoping to earn the votes of residents may be seen campaigning in various ways, including installing lawn signs. Provincial police are reminding residents to respect the democratic process. “Did you know that interfering with election signs may constitute a criminal offence?” OPP asked in a post on social media. “Interference includes stealing, removing, damaging, relocating or improperly disposing of election signs,” the post went on to explain. OPP adds that disagreements with candidates or campaign messages should never result in property damage or tampering with election material. “Make your voice heard through your vote,” police said.
