OPP stop woman for alleged theft, charge her with impaired operation

Provincial police say a Tuesday afternoon theft call in Gravenhurst turned into something more when they got to the scene.

Bracebridge OPP were called to an Edward Street business around 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday and informed of an alleged theft.

Police were able to quickly locate the suspect in a vehicle in a parking lot in the area.

A theft investigation followed and police allege the suspect, a 41-year-old female, was found to have stolen goods from other retail locations as well.

OPP officers became concerned about the woman’s impairment, police say, which then triggered an impaired driving investigation.

She now faces an operating while impaired charge and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.
