Quarter-sized hail could blast the region, winds up to 90 km/h

Thunderstorms could roll through the region with possible quarter-sized hail, according to Environment Canada.

The national weather centre has issued a yellow severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Simcoe County including Orillia, Lagoon City and Washago.

High winds are also expected with gusts blowing up to 90 kilometres per hour.

“Take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches,” Environment Canada says. “If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail.”

It also warns of potential power outages in the region.

Environment Canada says severe thunderstorm warnings are put in place when thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.
