Mobility scooter seen traveling along Highway 8

Dash cam video shows a person on scooter traveling on the shoulder of Highway 8, near Fairview Park Mall, in Kitchener.

Drivers had to do a double take Wednesday afternoon after spotting an unusual vehicle on Highway 8 in Kitchener.

A person using a mobility scooter was traveling along the shoulder between the flyover and exit to Fairway Road.

An Ontario Provincial Police cruiser was following behind as the scooter slowly made its way to the off-ramp.

CTV News reached out to police to ask how the scooter ended up on the highway.

OPP said the driver was an elderly man who was following a map on his phone to get to the mall.

They also speculated that, instead of choosing the directions for pedestrians, he mistakenly picked the route for drivers.

Officers escorted the man off the highway and into a safe area.

They said no charges were laid.
