Facing a first-degree murder charge related to the death of an infant, a 16-year-old girl from New Tecumseth appeared Friday morning from a youth facility.
She is also charged with indignity to a body following the discovery of a lifeless newborn inside an Alliston home two months ago
Police say the teen, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act was arrested Wednesday after the death of the newborn was ruled a homicide.
Police won’t disclose what the relationship was between the young woman and newborn.
Defence lawyer Melina Macchia appeared in the virtual Barrie courtroom and requested the matter be adjourned to Monday to prepare for a bail hearing.
The allegations against the accused have not been tested in court and police have appealed to the public for information in the ongoing investigation.
