Residents in Newmarket can get some spring cleaning done this week with the town’s Curbside Giveaway Days this weekend, which allows unwanted, gently used items to be placed at the curb for others to snatch up.

You know what they say, one person’s trash is another’s treasure.

This Saturday kicks off the season’s first curbside giveaway, helping to keep items out of the landfill.

To participate, residents should put items to the curb by 7 a.m. Saturday with a clearly marked ‘free’ sign, which can be printed from the town’s website.

Anything at the curb should be in good condition for re-use, or able to be repaired. Residents need to keep fire hydrants and sidewalks clear, and have all remaining items at 5 p.m. removed from the curb. Items left at the curb could result in a bylaw violation.

Ideas of giveaway items are books, furniture, small appliances, yard and maintenance equipment, kitchen necessities, construction materials and tools, electronics, clothing, artwork and mirrors.

Unclaimed items can be donated to charitable organizations rather than sending it to the landfill.

The next Curbside Giveaway Day is May 31.
