Pickup truck involved in fiery crash outside Orillia pet store

A fiery crash resulted in charges for one driver in Orillia.

A truck fire outside a pet store in Orillia has left one man in hot water.

Provincial police and the Orillia fire department arrived at a pet store on Monarch Drive to find a white pickup truck on fire shortly before 2 p.m. Thursday.

The truck sustained extensive damage.

An off-duty police officer had detained the driver until Orillia OPP officers arrived, who said they determined the man was impaired.

A 29-year-old Ramara Township man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving while impaired.

He is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia, to answer to the charges at a later date. As a result of the charges, his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and vehicle was impounded for seven days.
