Two youths face charges following a serious altercation allegedly involving several students from a Barrie high school.
Police confirmed there was a physical altercation at a plaza in the area of Mapleton Avenue and Ardagh Road around 11:30 Wednesday morning. Police say one person went to the hospital to be treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
An email was sent to parents and guardians of students at St. Joan of Arc Catholic School, notifying them about the off-school property incident. The letter advises that any video recordings should be reported to officials.
“It is our understanding that there were videos taken during the altercation. Any videos or photographs related to this incident should be provided to the school office. Please do not share these videos on social media - distributing this content and contributing to speculation and rumours about the incident will only further aggravate this serious situation.”
The school’s principal also noted matters involving violence and threats of violence carry “significant consequences.”
“The school has initiated an internal investigation and code of conduct and safe school protocols will be applied to those who were involved,” the letter stated.
The identities of the two students facing charges are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act and therefore cannot be disclosed.
