Weapons and assault charges laid against Barrie man

A young man is behind bars after a serious assault in south-end Barrie.

Barrie Police Services arrived at the Yonge Street and Cox Mill Road area around 9:30 a.m. on Monday.

After speaking with witnesses at the scene who identified the suspect, police located him and placed the 18-year-old man under arrest.

• Suspect arrested in connection with stabbing

A second man fled the scene after speaking with investigators, resulting in a brief foot chase.

Police took him into custody and later released him unconditionally after it was determined he was not involved.

Officers learned the victim had been stabbed multiple times following a dispute with the suspect.

A 40-year-old Innisfil man was taken by paramedics to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Aa a result of the investigation, the young Barrie man was charged with:

• Aggravated assault
• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

The investigation is ongoing.
