Canadian fans of Nintendo will have to wait a little longer to secure their pre-orders for the highly anticipated Switch 2 console.

Originally set to begin April 9, pre-orders in Canada have now been delayed, the company confirmed in an email to CTVNews.ca Wednesday.

According to Nintendo, the move was made “in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.”

While the company offered no specific reason for the postponement, the statement said that “Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date.”

The console’s official launch date of June 5 remains unchanged.

When asked whether the delay was related to recently announced U.S. tariffs, the company declined to comment further.

Last week, Reuters reported that Nintendo delayed pre-orders in the U.S. because it was considering how to proceed with the potential impact of the tariffs and evolving market conditions.

On April 2, Nintendo announced the launch date of its latest gaming console, which is set to introduce interactive chat and screenshare functions to connect gamers.

The console is expected to cost $629.99 in Canada.

In 2019, Nintendo shifted part of the production of its Switch gaming console to Vietnam from China to diversify manufacturing sites.

With no confirmed timeline for pre-orders in the U.S. and Canada, Nintendo urges customers to stay tuned for further announcements.
