An Airdrie resident and a Calgary man have been charged in relation to an incident in Canmore that led to them fleeing from police.
On April 7 at around 11 p.m., Canmore RCMP received reports of someone breaking into a vehicle in an underground garage.
Police responded and when they located a suspect vehicle, it fled the scene.
While police looked for the first suspect vehicle, a second vehicle they identified as being connected to the first was discovered and also fled the scene. Police say it intentionally crashed into a police car, disabling it.
Officers in a second vehicle were able to follow the second suspect vehicle into Calgary with help from Cochrane RCMP and Calgary’s HAWCS helicopter.
The police helicopter was able to maintain visual contact with the suspects until they were spotted leaving the vehicle.
The suspects were taken into custody by CPS K9 units.
A 31-year-old Airdrie resident was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, criminal flight, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine and three counts of failure to comply with a release order.
A 37 -year-old Calgary resident was charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, criminal flight, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of methamphetamine and failure to comply with a release order.
Following a bail hearing, both were remanded into custody. They will both appear in court in Canmore on April 16.
