Innisfail RCMP say two people are facing a long list of drug charges after police stopped a vehicle for having a mismatched licence plate.
On April 6, police pulled over a vehicle that had a licence plate that didn’t match the vehicle’s description, so it was likely stolen, police said.
Prior to police stopping the driver, Mounties said a woman was seen leaving the vehicle carrying a backpack.
As police were speaking with the driver, who was determined to be prohibited from driving and could not produce registration, insurance or a bill of sale for the vehicle, the woman returned.
“Both the male driver and female passenger were found to be wanted on outstanding warrants and were arrested,” police said in a news release.
The man was found in possession of bear spray and a quantity of money believed to be the proceeds of crime.
The backpack, previously carried by the woman, was found a short distance away and contained cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.
Both suspects were charged with multiple drug offences, while the male also faces several driving charges.
They are both expected in the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer later this month.
