An Alberta shelter is holding a free pet wellness clinic aimed specifically at seniors.
The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) says its first-ever Senior’s Pet Wellness Clinic will be held March 19.
The event is for pet owners aged 65 and older – but will offer wellness exams and vaccinations for pets of all ages.
“We know how much love and companionship pets bring to our lives, especially for seniors,” said Amy Corpe, director of animal health at AARCS.
“We want to make sure their furry friends stay happy and healthy by offering accessible veterinary care to those who need it most.”
Officials say providing veterinary care for pets who are already part of a loving home is a critical step in keeping animals out of shelters.
“Many pets end up in shelters due to the high costs of medical care, and by offering free wellness exams, vaccinations, parasitic control and a microchip, AARCS helps ensure that pets can stay with their families where they belong,” the organization said in a Friday news release.
“No one should have to choose between their pet’s health and rehoming them.”
The event will run at AARCS Safe Haven, 5060 74 Ave. S.E., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
