A Calgary theatre company is letting audience members attending its upcoming production of Mary Stuart decide how much they want to pay -- after the show.
Sage Theatre is implementing flexible pricing for the production, which tells the story of the Queen of Scotland and her cousin, the Queen of England, who both ruled at a time when governmental and religious structures favoured men to run things.
“I programmed this show because I knew the incredibly high calibre of the artists involved,” said Sage artistic director Jason Mehmel.
“This story will have outstanding performances in a very innovative, intimate set. I’m confident that our audience will be utterly transported by this production, and that some of them will reflect that in the ticket option they choose.”
If ticket buyers prefer to go old-school, they can buy a ticket the old-fashioned way -- before the show -- with the standard ticket being $30.
There’s also a $15 option available, or a $60 option for the most enthusiastic spectators.
Mary Stuart is directed by Javiar Vilalta from a script by Italian playwright Dacia Maraini. The two queens are played by Norma Lewis and Lauren Brotman.
The show runs from April 25 to May 4 at Motel inside Arts Commons.
