Calgary police have laid additional charges against a woman accused of filing faulty dental insurance claims.
The accused, Alena Vladimiro Smadych, 55, was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000 in November in connection with fraudulent dental claims totalling nearly $100,000.
The charge was laid after the insurance provider called police to report discrepancies for claims regarding fillings and root canal treatments that were all submitted by the same dentist at All About Family Dental, located at 7520 Elbow Dr. S.W.

On Monday, police announced Smadych has now been charged with another count of fraud over $5,000, following further investigation.
“Police collaborated with an internal investigator with the insurance company and their dental consultants to review hundreds of claims and determined that between January 2013 and January 2023,” police said in a news release.
Investigators believe five patients’ information was used to submit false claims to the insurance provider resulting in nearly $30,000 in losses.
“The accused fraudulently submitted false billings for endodontic, restoration and extraction procedures,” police explained.
Anyone with further information on Smadych is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
