Calgary firefighters were able to save several pets from a house fire in the community of Glendale on Tuesday.

Crews were called to the home in the 2200 block of Glenmount Drive S.W. at 2:30 a.m.

An adult and two small children made it out of the house safely on their own.

The Calgary Fire Department (CFD) says there were plumes of smoke coming from the front door when they arrived.

Inside, flames were eating away at the common areas of the single-storey home, and there was dense smoke throughout.

While inside, firefighters were able to locate two dogs and a guinea pig.

They used life-saving measures on one of the dogs to revive it, and say the other dog and the guinea pig were both fine.

The dog that was revived by firefighters was then taken to a vet by Calgary police.

The CFD says due to “extensive” smoke damage throughout the home – as well as fire damage in the common areas – it won’t be able to be inhabited at this time.

The cause of the fire isn’t yet known.
