Calgary man arrested in connection with attempted break-and-enter

Calgary police have arrested and charged a 55-year-old man for an attempted break-and-enter in Mount Pleasant last month.

Daniel Raymond Kottusch is charged with break-and-enter with intent after police say he attempted to force his way into a home while the homeowner was inside.

Police say at 3 p.m. on Jan. 25, a woman was inside her home in the 800 block of 24 Avenue N.W., in the community of Mount Pleasant, when she received a phone notification about an individual at her front door.

The woman did not recognize the man and did not open the door, but the suspect began kicking the front door and hitting it with a sharp object in an attempt to get inside.

The woman fled the home using a back door.

The man did not get inside and instead fled in a silver 2006 Ford Escape.

Kottusch remains in custody.
