A group of students at one Calgary high school are planning a walk out in support of thousands of workers currently on the picket line.
The Canadian Union of Public Employees’ (CUPE) Local 40 said students at Lord Beaverbrook High School will be demonstrating Thursday afternoon at 2:10 p.m.
CUPE Local 40 represents 800 custodial and maintenance staff with the Calgary Board of Education who have been on strike since Feb. 24.
In a statement, Clay Gordon, president of CUPE Local 40, said he welcomes the support of students.
“Students are being negatively affected by low wages, high turnover of staff and vacancies in support positions. A good education requires well paid, satisfied support staff.”
Gordon says the strike is about classroom conditions and how they play a part in student education.
